The primary roles(or functions) of the National Association of Mayors of Korea are as follows
01. | Co-operation for common matters of local authorities to develop local autonomy |
| - Submission of opinions on the enactment(or amendmant) of laws and stipulations related with local autonomy and administration | |
| - Process of proposals or petitions from local government to the central government of Korea |
02. | Enhancement of relationship among local governments in Korea |
| information exchange and research on pending issues about cities, counties, districts |
03. | Holding official conferences and meetings of the mayors |
| regular General Assembly(once a year), the Commission of Local Representatives(6 times a year), Special Committee on certain issue(in case necessary) |
04. | Strengthening central-local governments relationship |
| collaboration with the central government, the National Assenbly, the Ministry of Interior and Safety of Korea | |
| cooperation and solidarity with society, academy, NGOs related with local autonomy matters, assciations of governors, of chairmans of local councils |
05. | Support of the international relationship |
| Promotion of the relationship with overseas local governments and their associations | |
| Overseas trainings for mayors, formal visits to foreign local governments, invitation to Korea for foreign mayors, etc. |
